Percy Walton Swift-Cross was born on July 21st 2025 to the fabulous parents Kat and Justin and is an eight generation member of the Cross family on Big Tancook Island. He will likely be found hanging out with his great Uncle Baker (shark number 3 named after David Baker!)

The name “Brass Bed” was chosen by Casey Leblanc. Casey has been a huge supporter of the Tancook Islands Marine Field Station for the last 4 years and we can’t thank Casey and Amanda and all the team at Blandford Marine enough for all their help with keeping our research vessel Big Fish up and running.
Casey chose this name tied to a family story; Amanda’s grandmother really wanted a brass bed and after waiting and waiting she was rewarded for her patience. Not with a literal brass bed, but instead a beautiful boat that her grandfather named Brass bed. Casey’s wife Amanda now desperately wants another dog and so to honour their family tradition, Casey named this shark Brass bed. Amanda you’ve ended up responsible for looking after a white shark not a dog – but that’s a pretty good trade off. Team Tancook also guess that Amanda will likely get the dog too, given the pack of animals that already call the Leblancs residence home.

This white shark is named in honour of the pioneer and godfather of heavy metal music, ‘The Prince of Darkness’, the ultimate showman, Ozzy Osbourne. Rest in peace, you will never be forgotten, and your spirit now traverses the open ocean.

Timmy Spidle was a lifelong boater and waterskier on Mahone Bay, who started welding on the Lunenburg waterfront as a teen and went on to work ships around the world. Wherever the sea took him, Lunenburg County and Mahone Bay stayed home, including from 2014 on, when he settled on Big Tancook Island with his youngest son.
There's something fitting about a shark tagged in these same waters carrying his name forward, ranging the bay much as he once did. We're please to honour him this way, and we'll be following Timmy's journey for seasons to come.
